Cosmetic Surgery : A Guide To Liposuction

Posted by Mark Walters in beauty

If your body has areas of excessive fatty tissue, or you want to improve the overall shape of your body, then you might want to consider liposuction cosmetic surgery.

So, who exactly is a good candidate for liposuction cosmetic surgery? Well, you are, if any of the following apply to you…

1) You have excess fat areas in the neck, arms, back, breasts, ankles, calves, thighs, saddlebags, love handles, hips, buttocks or stomach. 2) Despite prolonged exercising and dieting, certain fatty deposits around your body prove impossible to remove. 3) Your fatty tissues are not around areas where you have excess, sagging skin – skin elasticity being important since liposuction only removes fat and not skin.

Your plastic surgeon will evaluate you to make sure that you are a good candidate for liposuction. He or she may ask you to look in the mirror and point out the areas that you want to be improved. Some pictures will be taken, and these photos will be used help your surgeon to determine what you expect, and to let you know what can actually be achieved.

It is best to thoroughly prepare yourself for your consultation with your chosen plastic surgeon. Take with you details of your past medical history, and make a note of any medications you have taken, or are taking, and of any allergies that you have. This is important as it some cases your eligibility for surgery may be compromised by your current health or past medical procedures that you have undergone.

So, should be eligible, and have found a surgeon that you are happy with, then the next step is to familiarize yourself with how liposuction cosmetic surgery actually works. Basically, what happens is that a tube, or canula, is inserted into the areas of your body where fat has deposited itself, so that a pump can be used to create a vacuum that allows the fatty tissues to literally be sucked out of you. There are some slight variations to this method though, which may be used depending on your particular circumstances, and the specific expertise of the surgeon that you have chosen.

Each method has pluses and minuses. The variety of methods will be discussed during the consultation. Your surgeon may use a combination of different techniques, whichever it is felt will work the best for you. The ultimate decision of what techniques to be used will be determined by your surgeon.

Once the surgery has been performed, which generally takes a few hours at most, you will need to rest and recuperate for a period of about ten days. There are generally no complications with the procedure, as it is one of the most common ones that plastic surgeons perform, and so no follow up operations should be necessary.

You will notice results from the liposuction surgery as soon as the bandages are taken off, however, the full results can take several months to make themselves clear. The incisions used for inserting the canula will fade over a period of a few months, and will usually become barely visible.
